Posting a draft for Friday

Haven’t been posting any writings for a long time because I kept changing the direction for 9 Lives of Eril for a more realistic approach.

That and I have been busy with Phantasy Star Online 2 SEA which – was used for the base on reviving another story idea derived many years ago.

Back in the days of .Hack\\, if anyone still remembers that anime, an idea was conceived to set in the modern world with an online game as base for a story but it was never posted because I couldn’t get it right. But the ideas has always been there and ten years later the details began to solidify thus I had to write it down before it fades away.

Below is a preview of the opening and perhaps I’d try to finish up the first chapter so readers can have a better overview of what’s going on.

“Part 4 – Untitled” (Because I can’t think of a better name yet)

“Arty? Arty!” Valia yelled.

“Huh …?” Artemis rubbed her eyes wearily, last few nights had not treated her kindly.

“What time did you sleep last night?” The voice had hands that pressed on her desk demanded an answer.

She rubbed her eyes again, waiting for her brain to formulate an answer. When it didn’t, she massaged the rest of her face. Still no answer. The information you were trying to retrieve is not found. 404 not found. Nada.

This just pissed off Valia more than usual and she couldn’t comprehend why?

“Arty, damn it! This is the seventh day since you met him and you haven’t sobered up since!”

Him?” She thought. Ah, Rogeries, no wait, that was his in-game name. His real name is Brye, the transfer student who roped her into playing the most popular MMORPG in the region which didn’t amuse Valia one bit because she doesn’t game.

“I’m right aren’t I? You’ve been ‘questing‘ with Brye all night again.” The word tasted of disgust in her mouth.

Artemis groaned, “He quit at the strike of 12a.m – Cinderella Syndrome. Aira wanted to carry on so I companied her.”

“Ah,” That seemed to satisfy Valia somewhat. Aira didn’t need to sleep, didn’t even need to eat – she was just an artificial intelligence!

Valia dug into Artemis’ backpack, took out a hand held gaming console, pushed a button and summoned a screen that boot up to some complicated menus which only Artemis knew how to navigate.

AIRA!” She yelled into the console.

This woke Artemis up entirely, she snatched the console back from her friend and frowned, “You can’t talk to Aira without internet connection and I refuse to let you scold her.”

“Fine,” Valia folded her arms. “At least check your calendar.”

And she didn’t even need the gadget to tell her that she screwed up.

After 4 cans of coffee, what came out was this …

I’ve done some reflection on getting this story right and finally found the direction that was actually satisfying to write. The entire short is far from complete but below is a preview of how it’s going to look like –

1st Life of Eril Prologue:

“Kin-ti-fi! Kin-ti-fi! Kin-ti-fi!”

Devotees roared with vigour so moving it almost woke corpses in the neighbouring cemetery. Men and women clad in little to no cloth gathered before a cauldron big enough to swallow the crowd whole. They gathered to worship their one and only true God who burned with fires of justice within the giant pot.

Standing before the pot was a platform raised high up to support Kintifi’s high priest, Yanus and his crucified sacrifice who dwelled in the state of intoxication, never conscious enough to comprehend the event unfolding before her.

Yanus raised both hands to silence the crowd as he prepared a moving speech about righteous murder. The crowd listened intently for Yanus garnered enough respect among his followers through devotion, integrity and most importantly, being a saviour in their grievous lives.

In the ancient society of the old Gods, everyone was born into place and never questioning of their purpose but not Kintifi; he was a great God who believed in Justice and Equality. Should a noble offend a peasant, the lower ranked have every right to deliver the same punishment to the higher ranked. No life before Kintifi was born lower than the other.

Bound on the wooden frame was proud soldier of the King’s royal guards, first female to be receive the honour of a knight rank. Pinned on her left breast was a golden Lion insignia that sparkled with pride even though she was beaten down to nothing more than a sacrifice that drooled mindlessly before death. Slipping in and out of consciousness, her will to fight wasn’t lessened by the overwhelming odds, clearly hanging on to the Lion’s pride.

Yanus spared a final glance at the sacrifice after the speech to ensure she was conscious enough to scream for the crowd.

Alright, here’s the new story as promised on facebook fanpage.

Although chapter 1 was written few months back, it wasn’t posted as I wasn’t sure where this story would take flight to. Initially. the purpose was only to understand the long running character “Eril” more, in the novel that I’ve been working on for a decade or so, as a different approach to character development and history.

Then, I realised this could very well be the backstory or starting point leading to the events of “Part 1” (to be renamed later) and even better, building up a fictional world as a base to write on for future stories of the same world.

Currently the story is stuck at Chapter3 with broken scenes but that should be fixed as soon as time becomes a luxury for the soul. It may sound impossible but more holidays are on the way ~

Seeking closure

TL;DR – Concluding chapter for Wordless –

Many things have happened for the past years, so did every one else’s no doubt and I’ve been caught in these waves and waves of emotional rollercoasters either as a direct or indirect result or even aftermath of real life drama. I’m not going to bore you with all the details – not because it’s boring, but because the matter is over and I don’t want to hang anyone’s dirty linens out to dry.

People make mistakes, sometimes irreversible mistakes which scars another for life but when these mistakes are acknowledged, dealt with, we learn to forgive, move on and never forget. My views often clash with the elders this way – in their generation, they learned to forgive and forget. Maybe because they want to move on without any baggage. Whatever the reasons, forget that anything happened, especially for grave mistakes, is a catastrophic mistake anybody can make.

This view is especially in line with the ISO 9002 compliant company I am working in now. Mind you I’m not an expert in ISO standards but one thing we learn fast and early when first joining the company is that making the same mistake twice or thrice (especially one that results in monetary loss) warrants a warning letter or getting fired from the job.

But people are not heartless you see, so when a mistake is made, we’re to document the how’s and why’s of the origin of the mistake and then followed by the how’s and when’s of how countermeasures would be in place to prevent the same mistake.

Which brings me to the point of – if a person can make a mistake once, what guarantees that person wouldn’t commit it again in the future?

Thus it is very important that even though we have forgave someone, or some people, that we do not forget all that has happened so we do not commit the same (grave) mistake twice.

Isn’t that why we study history in school? (of course that’s not the only reason we study history)

Anyway, matters over, aftermath settled (still settling actually, the effects of emotional damage lasts as long as eternity), so it’s time to seek closure.

Which I did. It’s not a watertight closure, the past still seeps through from time to time but not enough to cause any real issues.

So then I decided to take my life back bit by bit. Not all of it of course, now that I share a life with another significant half, but still, I want the part where it rejuvenates the soul back and that is none other than writing.

After not writing fiction for years, I was getting rusty, my gears were hardly moving. So I came up with an idea to use other people’s idea to get started. Whose better idea to get than that you live, breathe and sleep with everyday?

So we have a sort of collaboration going on, I started with a few intros and then realised how lacking I am in world knowledge so this is going to take a while.

In the midst of doing so I realised having closure in my personal life wasn’t enough, I wanted closure for my fictional characters as well so I may sleep in peace and not dream up their angst whenever the past creeps back.

And so, here is the conclusion to “Wordless”, a 3K worded chapter with dialogues to conclude a 600 word short story without dialogues.

Life is funny like that sometimes.

Surprise BUT … er Update.

This had been a pretty tough week for me keeping things together between family and work. It’s taking a toll on my mind-body well being but it also got my gears moving. With the new phone and data plan, I stored everything online and edited when I’m eating, waiting for the bus or sleeping on the train. Yeah, I fell asleep on the train doing all the editing and writing but it’s all worth it.

Here’s a quick list out –

31. Chalet – Yay ~! It’s a Schzool Chalet! That means fun, food and lots of get-together moments! But … no one planned what to do and there’s no food.

32. Times of fun – After an argument erupts, the group finally decided on something to do but none of them suits Zookeeper.

33. Haunted seas – Tandoori and Zookeeper sets out on a boating trip alone and didn’t return. It’s up to Rat to bring them back.

34. Dream of dreams – being rescued from the disaster Zookeeper tries to recall what happened previously.

37. Paper chase – After a freak accident Zookeep finds himself in the hospital, again.

38. Polytechnic dreams – While everyone enrolled in their dream school, Zookeeper could only mope but Tandoori believes there was still hope.

39. School leaver – Last chapter of Schzool, no spoilers!

New chapters uploaded!

It’s bad to keep people waiting for too long and moreover it’s been two weeks since I announced on facebook that all chapters were completed and all that was left was editing. As an apology to all readers waiting for the remaining chapters of Schzool, here is an update containing multiple updates which is bringing us closer to the end of the story.

Enjoy!

26. Dining out – where to go in an outing? EAT ~!

27. Eating etiquette – yes, different cultures have their own dining etiquette but Schzool have their own unique way of eating … well, not really. This chapter is more of what happens over the dining table.

28. Movie outing – what to do after eating? MOVIES ~ ! Very mainstream yes I agree but this is what Schzool is all about – non-mainstream people doing mainstream things.

29. Oh, the horror – by popular votes, a genre was chosen, tickets were bought but Zookeeper is nowhere near escalated for the movie they were catching well, isn’t something Zookeeper can stomach. (Spoiler: No, it’s not a gore movie).

30. Private time – Tandoori and Zookeeper gets a bit of private time together during the movie outing … hmm …

31. Chalet – Yay ~! It’s a Schzool Chalet! That means fun, food and lots of get-together moments! But … no one planned what to do and there’s no food.
